The Foillard vineyards sit on the famed hillside of Cote du Py in the Morgon appellation of Beaujolais. The schists soils that the old vines are grown on give the gamay grapes a unique expression that is captured in this wine. The Domaine stopped using chemicals in the vineyard in the 1980's when Jean Foillard took over from his father. From early on Jean led the way in the region striping back the wine making techniques to low intervention. Very small, if any, sulphur is added to the wines with no filtration or fining. The result is a pure example of the amazing terroir that these old vines are grown on.
It's complex and full of strawberries, candied cherries and earthy, mineral undertones. Silky tannins and a very long finish. Perfect to drink now but will also age well for 5/6 years.
