Viticulture: Sustainable estate-grown viticulture from a single plot within the Finca Tremoedo vineyard in Vilanova de Arousa. The vines, averaging nearly 40 years of age, are pergola-trained in shallow granite-rich soils at the coolest and highest section of the estate, just behind the winery. The Atlantic climate of Val do Salnés provides cool maritime influence, preserving freshness, aromatic precision and vibrant acidity while allowing slow, balanced ripening ideal for age-worthy Albariño.

Grapes: 100% Albariño

Vinification: Hand-harvested into small 17kg crates. After gentle destemming and crushing, the grapes undergo 12 hours of skin contact to enhance aromatic complexity and texture. The free-run juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts under controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 36 months, building depth, creaminess and structure while maintaining the mineral precision and freshness characteristic of the vineyard.

Tasting note and best served with:
A refined and age-worthy Albariño bursting with exotic aromas of pineapple, honeysuckle and white peach, layered with delicate floral notes, citrus oil and subtle lees complexity. The palate is gently rounded yet energetic, balancing ripe tropical fruit with vibrant acidity and a long granite-driven mineral finish. Best served with scallops, lobster, grilled turbot, sushi or creamy rice dishes infused with seafood and citrus.

Producer and terroir information:
Bodegas Granbazán is one of the pioneering estates of Rías Baixas, founded in 1981 in the heart of Val do Salnés, Galicia’s most prestigious Albariño-growing subregion. Recognisable for its striking blue-tiled winery inspired by Bordeaux châteaux, Granbazán has become internationally respected for producing elegant, terroir-driven Albariños that combine Atlantic freshness with remarkable ageing potential.

The Don Álvaro de Bazán cuvée represents the estate’s most serious expression of Albariño, sourced exclusively from the coolest and highest section of Finca Tremoedo. Here, shallow granite soils and strong Atlantic influence create wines of tension, minerality and longevity. Extended lees ageing over 36 months gives the wine exceptional texture and complexity while preserving its saline precision and floral lift.

A standout for lovers of premium Albariño, mineral-driven Spanish white wines and age-worthy Atlantic wines, Don Álvaro de Bazán is a beautifully detailed expression of Galicia’s coastal terroir and modern fine winemaking.
