Country: Spain
Region: Rías Baixas, Val do Salnés

Viticulture: Sustainable farming. 35-year-old Albariño vines planted on predominantly sandy soils at 60 metres above sea level, sourced from vineyard parcels closest to the winery near the Umia River.

Grapes: 100% Albariño

Vinification: Hand-harvested. Destemmed and softly pressed before spontaneous fermentation under controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Aged on fine lees for 6 months to build texture and complexity while preserving freshness and varietal purity. Filtered prior to bottling.

Tasting note and best served with:
A vibrant and saline Albariño with aromas of citrus peel, crisp green apple and ripe stone fruit. The palate is fleshy yet energetic, balancing bright acidity with a persistent mineral finish that reflects the Atlantic influence of Galicia. Best served chilled with oysters, mussels, grilled squid or fresh seafood dishes.

Producer and terroir information:
Casa Monte Pío is a small family estate located in the prestigious Salnés Valley, the historic heartland of Rías Baixas. Established in 1979, almost a decade before the official creation of the DO Rías Baixas appellation, the winery has long been dedicated to expressing the coastal terroirs of Galicia through traditional Albariño winemaking.

Today, winemaker Pablo Martinez continues the work of previous generations, focusing on old-vine fruit and low-intervention techniques that highlight freshness, salinity and regional character. The Salnés Valley itself takes its name from the ancient salt flats that once dominated the area, a legacy still reflected in the unmistakable saline minerality found in the region’s wines. Sandy soils, Atlantic breezes and proximity to the Umia River combine to produce Albariños of tension, aromatic intensity and remarkable drinkability.

ABV: 12.5%
